Memorandum of understanding (MOU)

The memorandum of understanding is the formal contract between BCRAL , clients and other referral clinics

The understanding is:

The Role of BCRAL:

1. Work in accordance to the principles in the General Medical Council (GMC) document Good Medical Practice. Work within the guidelines of British Association of Sexual Health & HIV (BASHH) and British HIV Association (BHIVA). Keep up to date and participate in appraisal and revalidation.

2. Ensure current registration of specialist with GMC

3. Have appropriate Medical Indemnity (Medical Protection Society).

4. See all patients at a mutually convenient time and place promptly.

5. Provide partner notification and provider referral.

6. Keep notes of patients private and secure within the Sexual Health Act and Venereal Diseases Regulation(2000).

7. Provide own secretarial services and arrange investigations through its agents.

8. Provide necessary medications through its agents.

9. Will invoice patients directly for their care which should be honoured timely.

10.  Promote the Referral Clinic and share the specialist care of the patient.

The Referral Clinic:

1. Is the primary gateway to the patient and will be provided prompt and timely correspondence regarding the specialist care of the patient.

2. Is primarily responsible for the non Genitourinary & HIV/AIDS Medical needs of the patients

3. Is not responsible for the payment of BCRAL.

4. Will ensure that BCRAL fulfils its specialist obligations to the patient(s).

5. May surcharge BCRAL for use of its premises. This cost will be borne by the patient(s)

6. Maintain confidentiality of patients with sexual health problems by use of anonymous number provided on referral.

Indicative Charges:

Medical Consultation (up to 30 minutes) £300

HIV related consultations: £400

STI & Well Person Screen inclusive of Consultation charges:

Silver (male & female) £400

Gold  (male & female) £450

Platinum (male & female) includes genital cancer £550
